Pasta_hands1There’s only one entry requirement for this workshop and that’s a deep and abiding love for pasta. You don’t have to love cooking, heck, you don’t even have to like it: this is not strictly a cooking class. Just hands and minds employed in one of humankind’s few unifying rituals – the creation of a tasty snack!

Join Katie at Honey Grove for a hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of homemade pasta. Learn about the cultural history of this great staple, as well as the technology behind its production and the importance of a really great sauce (even if that’s just pasta water and olive oil). We’ll learn about the differences  between fresh and dried pasta; and the relevance of each within a specific setting.

Pasta_hands2Together we’ll make enough dough to create lots of different fresh pasta shapes; inculding tortelli and tagliatelle. We’ll finish off our workshop by cooking our pasta to enjoy immediately. Fast food done right.

Workshop duration: Approximatley 2.5 hours (slightly longer for larger groups)
Cost: $120 minimum fee (for up to 4 participants) – add $25 for each additional participant. Fee includes all materials and preprepared tortelli fillings; light meal and recipe printouts.

 

Workshop in Sensory Analysis

What is olfaction? Why does it matter? How does it integrate with our other senses in order to assist us in our enjoyment of food and drink?
Aroma board1By really paying attention to how we perceive food, we can investigate and better understand our reasons for eating and drinking the things that we do – as well as the things that we don’t. Katie’s workshop in sensory analysis utilizes a variety of different techniques to help reacquaint you with your olfactory system. If you’ve ever wondered why a wine might smell of vanilla (or even asparagus or butter) or an aged prosciutto might smell of mushrooms, then this carefully curated workshop is sure to heighten your sensory appreciation of odors and aromas alike. With Honey Grove providing the perfect natural backdrop to our workshop, this dynamic and interactive learning experience evokes science and pleasure in equal measure.

Not just for adults, Katie can tailor thisAroma board3 workshop to underage participants, creating a truly interactive space in which children can sniff and smell their way around a kind of olfactory obstacle course. Kids have powerful noses and exceptionally clean palates; a workshop in sensory analysis is a fun way to get them thinking about the science behind their consumption practices. By understanding how and why we eat what we do, we tend to make better choices regarding the foods we consume.

This workshop provides participants with invaluable tools in advance of a visit to one of the island’s wineries, farms or food producers.

Workshop duration: Approximately 1.5 hours.
Cost: $100 minimum fee (for up to 8 participants) – add $10 per person for each additional participant. Fee includes all materials; aroma board, tasting plate and printed handouts.
